I did not find a single mention in my genealogy database in reference to the state of Louisiana. This is one of those weeks where I’m just going to highlight a particular genealogy resource I’ve found for the state of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Digital Archives has a wide collection of digital collections. You can browse various collections by topic, time period, name and more.
Here are a few I found particularly interesting
- Civil War Photograph Album:
This album contain a number of photographs of soldiers from the civil war. They are mostly officers and there are not a whole lot of them, but ig your ancestor was an officer from Louisiana, you might get lucky.
- Louisiana Newspaper Access Program:
This collection contains various newspapers which have been digitized and are available for browsing. Some of the newspapers include the Baton-Rouge Gazette and Louisiana Planter. Perhaps you’ll find your ancestor’s name or some of their neighbors listed in the newspaper.

I don’t have any direct descendants within the state of Ohio. My wife’s ancestor Joseph Dallas Pool was from the state of Georgia. I previously wrote about him when I talked about my Georgia Connections. I tracked one of his sons Joe Henry Poole to Ohio, which is this week’s Ohio Connection.
Joe Henry Pool was the son of Joseph Dallas Pool and Nancy Osborne. He was born on September 2, 1899 in Georgia. Between the years 1921 and 1924. His wife, Anna May Moon, their son William and a daughter moved to Ohio. In 1924, Joe and Anna welcomed another boy to the family. On February 19, 1927, they welcomed Nadine to their growing family. I have not mentioned the names of one known son and one known daughter as it’s possible they are still living. I did not want to mention a living individuals name without first asking them and I was also unable to locate them to ask.
Joe Henry died on Apr 11, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio. Joe’s wife Anna lived for another 40 years and died on Apr 25, 1989 also in Cleveland, Ohio.

Robert David Malone was born in Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee on 23-June-1916. He was married to my 1st cousin once removed, Lillian Ruth Dorman. The reason I’m writing about his connection rather than any other connections to Tennessee is the work that his wife Lillian Ruth Dorman was instrumental in putting together so much of the family history before the rise of computers to do genealogy research.
Lillian Ruth Dorman visited my father back in the 1970s through the early 1990s in part to gather information about the family history. She with her sister Dorothy M. Stroble wrote a genealogical publication entitled “One Dorman Family of Connecticut & Allied Lines Laurie Banks”. A copy of this publication is at the Connecticut State Library.
Lillian was born on the 3rd of September in 1918 in New Britain, Connecticut. Robert and Lillian had three children.Lillian died on June 4, 1994 in Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida. Almost exactly one year later, Robert died on Jun 28, 1995 also in Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida.
